These blades were developed in collaboration with the faculty and staff at James Krenov's Fine-Woodworking studio in Fort Bragg, California. 3 1/2" (89mm) long by 3/16" (4.76mm) thick, they won't deflect or chatter under the toughest use. Designed specifically for the finely-tuned handmade wooden plane, these irons are un-beatable.
They come complete with chip-breaker and assembly screw. High carbon steel.
To maximize your plane's performance, a thicker chip breaker (cap iron) can stabilize the blade's cutting edge reducing vibration and chatter. HOCK Chip Breakers or Backing Irons are 3mm thick (.118"), almost twice as thick as a stock chip breaker. We offer them, with a knurled cap screw, in 1 3/4" (for the #3 planes), 2" (#4 & #5), 2 3/8" (#6 & #7) and 2 5/8" (#8) widths:
Don't forget your SPOKESHAVE. A quality blade makes all the difference! The adjustable-throat models must be disassembled at the "hinge" to install our thicker (3/32") blade, but the results are well worth the effort.
